Who's behind the prints? Scottish Art Prints is the online home of Carol McEwan, a Dundee-born artist and designer who turns her own photography of the Scottish landscape into high-quality giclée art prints. Carol's background is in fashion design and graphic design (she also runs a small graphic design studio called the Wee Design Studio). It was actually her own struggle to find interesting Scottish wall art, something beyond the generic, that led her to start making her own.
"I wanted prints that actually felt like Scotland. So I started working with my own photographs and creating something more painterly, more textured. Something that captures the atmosphere of a place, not just how it looks."
Working from a home studio in Dundee, Carol photographs landscapes across Scotland, from Angus beaches to Perthshire glens and Highland lochs, then layers textures, colour and subtle effects onto each image using digital tools. Scans of local tweed fabric, watercolour washes, fine art paper textures, it all goes in. The result sits somewhere between photography and painting.
